Andy Vermiglio decided to get serious about drumming at the age of eight. He has studied with old Mr. Young, Denny Dennis, Hank Bellson (Louie's brother), Roland Gilbert, Brad Bilhorn (Art Pepper, Bill Watrous), Don Plowman, Bill Maxwell (from Andrae Crouch, Keith Green and Koinonia), Joe Porcaro (Jeff's dad), Ray Dunaway, Dave Weckl (from the Chick Corea Band, George Benson, Randy Brecker, Eric Marienthal, Peabo Bryson, Mike Stern, Natalie Cole, Diana Ross, Madonna, Robert Plant and Dave Mathews) and Jeff Hamilton (Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra, Lionel Hampton, Oscar Peterson, Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd, Count Basie Orchestra and Diana Krall).
Andy is a former Navy musician and a former drum instructor for the U.S. Armed Forces School of Music. He is currently a member of the Vic Firth Education Team. Andy has performed and/or recorded with:
Andy has played for the weddings of Tom Hanks and John Wayne's daughter Raisa. He has performed for the movie premiers of Ishtar and Renaissance Man and has recorded for the TV shows St. Elsewhere and the 700 Club.
Locally, he has worked with Heart ‘n Soul (Steve Don, Jimi Seville, Eddie Estrada and Rey Garguena), Groove Therapy, The Pocket Monkeys (Steve Desmond, Art Hernandez, Bobby Bancalari and Phil Sanchez), Sunday Shoes (Dan Epp, Danny Van Hofwegan, Karl Sanger, Lauren Taylor, Paul Hayes and Pat Morvan), Paul Duke, Steve Desmond, Rhythm Bay (Grant Prather and Fonze Garcia) the Randy Penland Trio, the Chuck Eversole Band, Giocoso (Dave Gruber, Gary Metz, Fonze Garcia) and the Makinto Band (Makinto, Randy Penland, Fonze Garcia).
